The City of San Ramon is taking a major step toward addressing housing affordability in the Tri-Valley region. The San Ramon Planning Commission is currently reviewing a proposal for a 100-unit affordable housing development at 6001 Bollinger Canyon Road, part of the long-awaited Chevron Park redevelopment.

The project — a collaboration between Eden Housing and Sunset Development Company — aims to provide homes for residents earning between 30 % and 80 % of the area median income (AMI). It also includes a ground-floor childcare center to serve the surrounding community.

🏗️ Building for the Future

If approved, this project will be one of the largest affordable housing additions in San Ramon’s history. The Chevron Park site, once a hub for the oil company’s regional offices, is being reimagined as a mixed-use community blending homes, retail, and green open spaces — a model that reflects the city’s push toward sustainable suburban growth.

“This proposal demonstrates that affordability and design quality can coexist,” said a city planner during the public review session. “It’s a chance to bring balance to a city that has long faced limited affordable options.”

💡 Why This Project Matters

The Bay Area’s affordable housing crisis has been particularly visible in suburban cities like San Ramon, where median home prices often exceed $1.3 million. For essential workers, teachers, and young families, this project offers a lifeline — and a path to staying rooted in the community.

From a real-estate perspective, it also signals increased public-private collaboration, which can stimulate development momentum across the county while easing future supply shortages.
